One Hundredth and One Post

After I lasted posted I noticed it was my 100th post.  That made me stop and think about how many quilts I have shown you.  I ended up going back and looking at a number of the quilts I posted.  As I looked at them, I found myself thinking about each one, where the fabric came from, who sewed or quilted it and how much I like each one of them.  It also makes me want to sew and cut and press more fabric.

As of today, we have delivered 614 quilts..  YES!!! We are over the 600 mark and on the way to 700.

On to some quilts.  Let's start with Halloween

This quilt started out with Judith cutting it.  After it was pieced, Sandy took it and as you can see from the close-up in the second picture, she went absolutely nuts quilting it.  The back of the quilt is almost as fun as the front!

This cutie started out on Judith's cutting table too.  Judith tends to do a lot of our holiday quilts.  Sandy also quilted it in a great overall pattern.  I think she needed to calm down after that last quilt!

Yep.  Halloween #3 was cut and pieced by Judith.  

Vicky quilted what I shall call Halloween #4.  Aren't the ghosts on the back cute?

Vicky also quilted Halloween #5.  

In checking with Tracy at the hospital, the Halloween quilts are quite popular.  In fact they have given all of those away in just a couple of days.  Next year we may have to increase our numbers of Halloween quilts.

Now let's check out some other quilts just for fun.

I'm afraid as we make more and more quilts I don't always remember who pieced them.  If I don't credit someone, that means I think I know who pieced it, but hate to say in case I am wrong.  And yes, I am not sure who pieced this one.  Sandy quilted it for us and a little guy is going to love the puppy dogs.

Schoolhouses was pieced by Lois.  I love the alphabet sashing she used along with the alphabet on the backing.  Shannon quilted this one.

Little dragons are the focus on this quilt pieced by Teresa.  I think the backing is fun.

I've got more great quilts, but I'll save them until next time.

Zachary and His Quilt

I received an awesome email a couple of days ago with a picture attached.

There are not enough words to thank you and the women you work with for the beautiful space quilt that my son, Zachary, received this past week at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.  It meant so much to our family to receive this special gift when we arrived.  You are doing such an amazing thing for children and their families.  A card is in the mail to you tonight, but I wanted to email quickly and say thank you and also include this picture of Zachary with his quilt.  Thank you again so much for the time, energy, effort and finances you put toward this worthy cause!

When I received the email I was so pleased that they were happy to get the quilt.  This quilt was cut by me, passed on to Teresa to sew and then given to Shannon to quilt.  Little Zachary looks like he certainly doesn't feel well.  I am so happy that we were able to give him this quilt.  I hope it made him and mom and dad feel a little better.  And as promised, I did receive a beautiful thank you in the mail.

Lois pieced these delightful little boats.  Sandy quilted it for us.  This quilt is perfect for a little boy.

Red and orange?  Yes!!  This was pieced by Paula and quilted by Sandy.

Kelly quilted this Peanuts and Soccer themed quilt.

This is a favorite of mine. I think that is because of the pastel fabrics.  Kathy pieced and quilted it.  

Paula pieced this little boy's quilt.  Shannon added the cute backing and quilting.

Oh So Sweet

Summer is long gone and fall is well underway.  It won't be long before the cold weather sets in.  I thought I would share this picture to remind us of the warmer days.

This quilt was made by a friend in Arizona.  A simple rail fence pattern with a backing to match that looks like patchwork.  Who can resist a cute pink quilt?

I love this little duck print!  Kelly quilted little boats on it.

I think these orange lions make a cute quilt!  The colors are so bright and the bright backing are sure to please.  Shannon's quilting is the finishing touch.

Paula pieced this simple quilt.  It's a great example that shows sometimes simple is the best.  Sandy quilted it and it turned out oh so sweet!

Did someone mention sweet?  That describes this quilt.  I pieced the nine patch blocks, gave them to my sister, and she made what we call "wonky blocks".  Sandy took the finished top and quilted simple stars in the solid blocks with small stipples in the wonky blocks.  The little rosebud backing is sweet too!

As always, thanks for looking at our quilts.  We love making them and giving them to the kids but we also love the fact that you take time to look!

Our Small Venture

As many of you know, for the last couple of years, I have had the opportunity to travel to speak at meetings regarding my MS and the new medication I take.  As part of my presentation, I talk briefly about why I started making quilts for Lawrence Memorial Pediatric Unit.  Everyone is always amazed that what started as a very small venture has blossomed and become a major endeavor.  We are very close to having delivered 600 quilts.  It is indeed amazing.  

I received a darling little thank you recently from Brennen.  He wrote it himself and said he loves his quilt.  The best part is he is feeling better.

Here's a few of our latest quilts.

This beauty was a joint effort.  I often times make pinwheel blocks out of scraps.  Judith took them and added some 16-patch blocks that several people pieced for us.  She sewed them up and this was the result.  The batik backing was just waiting for this quilt top to come along.  Sandy did a great job quilting it.

  

This is another example of the same idea.  You can use a lot of small scraps in this quilt.  The soft blues and purples give you a sense of water.  Judith even pieced the backing with a couple of leftover blocks.

This was a kit I cut and gave to Susan to piece.  I loved this piece of fabric with the owls and wanted a pattern that would show them off.

What a great quilt for a little boy!  Lois pieced this cute quilt.  Shelly provided the backing and Shannon finished it with great quilting.

This last quilt was pieced by Paula.  The fabric is cute and the fabrics are bright.  If I remember correctly, Kelly quilted it for us.  A big thank you to Kelly.

As usual, I think this was a nice selection of some great quilts.  Hopefully you enjoyed looking.

Simon

Greg and I were fortunate to be able to spend last week in DC with Joel, Cara, and Simon.  They have started new grass in their front yard so Greg was on water duty.  It was left to me to be on Simon duty.  It was a hard job but I did my best!  Here's Greg taking a break.

I've got some great quilts for you.

Marie not only pieced this one, she quilted it as well.  All I had to do was add the label!

Susan pieced this sweet little quilt.  The fish and the blue and green batiks makes a very fun water colored quilt.  The yellow and blue backing has a look of flowing water.  Sandy did a great job of quilting it.

Amy made this fun quilt full of polka dots and zoo animals.  Shannon added a wild backing and the quilting.

This started as a piece of fabric that I just couldn't decide what to do with.  I thought it was so cute so I passed it on to Deb.  She didn't want to cut it into small pieces either.  She came up with a great solution.

 

Teresa pieced this top full of space ships.  The backing has moons and stars.  A perfect combination.  Be sure to notice the great quilting that Shannon added.

Teresa pieced this top of bright fish. It is very bright with a great green and blue background.  Sandy did the quilting that adds to the water look.

One more look at Simon.  As you probably can tell, I just can't get enough of him!
